| Homag have supplied leading Scottish interior furniture designers and manufacturing specialists, Ben Dawson Furniture with advanced CNC production technology in the form of a Weeke Vantage 34L. |
 |
The special machine designed for nesting-based production was bought from Homag UK’s Scottish agents Deral who worked closely with Ben Dawson on the specification of the machine.
Based at Musselburgh near Edinburgh, Ben Dawson Furniture was established in 1983 to supply high quality bespoke furniture products for architectural interiors. The company’s acute attention to detail and a very high level of craftsmanship quickly brought them to the attention of leading architects and interior designers and today Ben Dawson supply some of the most prestigious contracts both at home and abroad

These have included The Scottish Parliament, BBC Scotland HQ, the Allied and Irish Bank Centre in Dublin as well as work overseas for BA and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Seeking extra capacity and greater accuracy with smaller tolerances, Ben Dawson decided to upgrade their existing and ageing CNC facility and undertook intense research of the machinery market.

Deral and Homag invited Ben Dawson to the famous Homag "Treff” open house exhibition in Germany where they were able to ascertain the excellence of the engineering of the Weeke machine along with various other superior technical advantages. One of these was the ease with which the Homag Woodwop software would interface with the CAD/CAM package used and preferred at Ben Dawson.
Once the Weeke was installed, Ben Dawson operators went to Homag UK's Castle Donington HQ for training and subsequently had on-site training from Deral technical staff.

The Weeke Vantage 34L is a flat bed configuration so that components can be processed on a nesting basis as well as accepting vacuum pods for machining larger, more complex components.
Ben Dawson say that the machine has surpassed their expectations and that, as the operators become more familiar with its capabilities, the Weeke is taking on more and more work within the factory and leading to increased efficiency.
Deral’s Brian Johnston worked closely with Ben Dawson on the specification of the machine to ensure it met their exacting requirements. Ben Dawson say that an important part of the investment decision was the presence of Deral technical support in Scotland and the wider back-up of Homag UK’s excellent after sales and technical support department. Of course, the Weeke itself has sophisticated online diagnostics capability.
The Weeke Vantage 34L at Ben Dawson Furniture has given the company the capacity and confidence to take their business forward and explore far wider market opportunities.
